•All students try to learn English with their eyes. Students mostly read
textbooks, study vocabulary books, and study grammar books. They also do exercises in workbooks and test preparation books. However, none of these activities can improve your speaking nor vocabulary. You will not improve your speaking by learning with your eyes. Yes you can remember a lot of words but learning them with the help of vocabulary books, but you can not use them in your daily conversation.
•How do children learn new words? A child's ability to learn new words is nothing short of phenomenal. For example, a 7 year old child learns about 3500 new words per year. Nevertheless, we can learn a lot by watching young children and how they approach the problem of leaning new words.Young children do not learn new words by looking them up in a dictionary. they simply infer meanings from context.They figure out a word's meaning by paying attention to how it is used.
•In order to build your vocabulary, you have to listen and repeat new words. Think about it – you never forget to say the word ‘you’. This is because it is such a common word that you say it at least a hundred times every day. That is why you do not forget it. Using new words in your everyday speech is important to improve your vocabulary. The first step to learning new words is to listen them again and again with correct pronunciation. When you listen to a word, you may not understand it, but if you listen that word many times with different context. Then you will learn its meaning and usage without the help of your dictionary. This is how children learn. Then you will be able to use those words in many different circumstances, in many different phrases.
•When you listen, it means that you are attempting to learn by your ears, means you push the English words deep into your brain. You remember vocabulary faster and you never forget it. You remember correct grammar too- even though you never study grammar rules. Listening to new words many times in different contexts is the key to improve your vocabulary, and by this way you will never forget those new words.
